“Temporal life is a false sense of existence.” (Science and Health, p. 122)

A temporal existence is one that dwells in and focuses on the physical world, the body, and on the powers that seem to be—material laws, political powers, and governing forces based on persons and organizations.

A temporal life is also one that is measured by time. It means looking at life with a sense of limitation as well as finiteness. The temporal life both rushes us and squeezes us in. It keeps us fearful and pressed, and it makes us feel subject to forces outside of our own control and often without benevolence or understanding behind them.

But this temporal life is not our true life. It is a sense of existence. It is a belief in something that is ultimately not reality. True being is spiritual. The Truth of our lives is its eternal nature. Life, in God, in Truth, is timeless and under the control of spiritual, not material laws.

Let’s stop accepting the temporal—the fleeting, the limited, the unloving—as the reality we just have to live with. Instead, let’s awake to our immortal life, one that is free and fearless, forever expanding in light, not chased by time but transcending it with each new day of God’s good Life.
