“But in the day that I’m afraid, I lay all my fears before you and trust in you with all my heart.” (Psalms 56:3, the Passion Translation)
It may seem like trust is difficult to do when we are feeling afraid. And yet, as we choose to rely on God in these challenging times, we discover hope, light, and calm.
Rather than allowing our fears to overtake us, to be held to and justified, made even larger and more real, let’s lay those fears before God. What does He make of these fears? What does He do with them?
Well, as infinite Mind and perfect Love, those fears are nothing to God. He dissolves them with His presence, and we come to learn that we are actually safe and strong and ready to bear witness to good.
The psalm speaks of trusting God with the whole heart. This isn’t about rationalizing our fears to God and crying out for Him to help us, while also somehow believing we, or the situation, are beyond His help. God is greater than our fears and greater than what we believe we are afraid of.
He is All and He is Love. Our hearts really do know this deep within, and we can trust our hearts to surrender the anxiety on the day that we are afraid, and to let God show us His perfect new day of gratitude, freedom, and true peace.
