“At present mortals progress slowly for fear of being thought ridiculous. They are slaves to fashion, pride, and sense…We ought to weary of the fleeting and false and to cherish nothing which hinders our highest selfhood.” (Science and Health, p. 68)

Let’s discover and enjoy our freedom. Let’s put our focus and faith in what is life-giving, expansive, and progressive. Let’s eagerly let go of a fixation on what is limiting and material. Let’s gratefully relinquish an unnecessary and unnatural (to God’s ideas) need to be like others, to follow trends and to feed the personal ego.

We can stop worrying that we will be thought ridiculous for caring about and pursuing spiritual ideas, a greater sense of purpose, and a true consciousness of self that isn’t housed in physicality and others’ perceptions of us. This right endeavor to grow spiritually continually unfolds new light and life.

Material aspirations are fleeting and flimsy. They can’t satisfy us fully or show us that higher selfhood—the one that is slave to nothing and is free to live each day listening and learning, growing in goodness, grace, and joy!
