“He found him out in the wilderness, in an empty, windswept wasteland. He threw his arms around him, lavished attention on him, guarding him as the apple of his eye.” (Deuteronomy 32: 10, the Message)
We are never lost to God. We are never alone and unloved even when it feels like our lives are a wasteland or like the winds of time and circumstance leave us feeling untethered.
God’s loving presence is here. God is throwing His arms around us and helping us to see why we are precious and special to Him, the apple of His own perfect eye. We are God’s children, and we can recognize that it is His nature to keep us safe, and to love us with an abundance of attentiveness and affection.
We can surrender to God’s rescue of us. He is right where we are when we let Him find us—when we release the sense of ego and fear and doubt and blame and shame. When we turn to God with love for Him—for goodness, for Life, for Love—we feel His embrace already around us. In the place where anger may seem to be, we find God’s Love already filling it, bringing peace.
We are set free by this Love to return to innocence, to awake to the riches of this moment, and to receive God’s tender welcome home.
