“Individuals are consistent who, watching and praying, can ‘run, and not be weary; . . . walk, and not faint,’ who gain good rapidly and hold their position, or attain slowly and yield not to discouragement.” (Science and Health, p. 254)
Let’s do our best to be consistent. Let’s remember that it isn’t how quickly we get all the answers or how humanly perfect we may appear to others. We can rely on that ideal we seek that continues to encourage us. We can move forward at the pace that feels right in each moment.
Let’s not judge our experiences or ourselves. But let’s continue to watch our thinking and behavior, and pray for inspiration, release of ego, a deeper trust. If we feel like a lot is going on, in consciousness and in life, we can certainly move through these times without depletion, without a sense of weariness. We can let God’s new ideas and opportunities energize us, rather than drain us.
Likewise, when we feel that things are stagnating or that inspiration is less than forthcoming, we can trust our intentions. Indeed, if we are aware of feeling unfulfilled, it means we know there can be fulfillment. We are still recognizing possibilities.
Our pauses are not ends. They are pauses. Our right reflection on things can gently, naturally, reveal what is good and true and healing at just the right time, in the right way for us all.
Don’t be discouraged. Trust your consistent hope for good, your desire to know and feel God. He is with us in the seeking as well as in the finding.
